PODCAST REVIEW: May contain podcast

May Contain Podcast

This podcast is hosted by Daniel Kelly. Daniel has a peanut & nut allergy, first made aware at age 5 (26 now). He is very active in the allergy awareness community. In 2015 he designed an allergy magazine to raise awareness for anaphylaxis whilst at university. The magazine was designed to show an EpiPen® being fashionable. The magazine was a hit and people took notice (quite right), have a look here.

What I love about this poddy is that I feel like I am talking to a friend. The vibe is chill, motivating, passionate and ripe with personal experiences. There are some exceptional guests with moving stories that show how every person with allergies has different experiences but all share the emotions that go along with it. Dan has a way of making people feel comfortable to share, his humour allows an ease that sometimes we can lose sight of.

I have never made anaphylaxis a defining point in my life. I try to live my life as other people would, with a few more boundaries. Dan & his guests share this philosophy. He has his friends and family on to discuss how it affects them, which is very important.

There is so much that Dan and his podcast do for the allergy community. He raises awareness to everyone, especially younger people who are just starting to navigate this world on their own. It is very daunting when you leave home and your life is in your own hands, not only to allergy reactors but for everyone involved. May contain helps with that. Being more transparent and open about how younger people can navigate life safely is priceless.

If you are an allergy reactor, parent, friend, partner or anyone with a sense of humour, this podcast is for you!

My favourite episodes:

Episode #3: Over 300+ Anaphylaxis shock/ Natasha Coates

Episode #8: Allergy anxiety, dating & airlines with Natasha Salmon

Episode #10: Over 35+ experience in catering and hospitality with Jaqui McPeake

Episode #12: The Great British Bake Off with Rosie Brandreth-Poynter (I bet you could imagine why this is my favourite (GBBO forever))

Episode #13: Allergy free desserts with Stacy Forsey

Episode #18: The importance of the EpiPen with Lindiwe Lewis

Dan also has a Youtube channel which you can find here. He does vlogs, live chats, Q&A’s and much more - What doesn’t he do? (PS he has a full time job) I thought I do a lot but I need to up my game!

Thank you Daniel for inspiring this community and helping the younger generation with feeling more confident in their allergies.

I love how relatable and down to earth Dan is. Young adults are a high risk group with anaphylaxis on mind. The messages given here are strong and positive. Carry two adrenaline injectors and always carry them. Don’t take risks. Really enjoying listening and would definitely recommend subscribing.

Really entertaining and very relatable! Something you can’t often say about allergies. Great podcast.

I have a 4 year old with a peanut allergy. This podcast is really informative - I love that Dan discusses things that affect young people with allergies because I can relate the info to my own son growing up. It’s taught me a lot already and as an allergy mum it’s all things I need to know. Light hearted and funny but covers serious subjects. :)
