Dec 19 BOOKS: Zoe has an Allergy

Zoe has an allergy is a terrific allergy book about a fun and curious five-year-old girl, the book describes her allergy journey.

The book shares what it means to have an allergy and anaphylaxis. It would help children learn what an EpiPen is and when to use it. It is a great book for parents who are trying to teach their children about their allergies, or even school children to learn what allergies mean.

When I saw ‘Zoe has an allergy’, the first thought I had was, did someone make a book about my life?
Some of you might not have had this experience but I have never looked at tv or a book and thought that I was represented.
Yes some things are slowly getting better, I am seeing a lot more mixed raced people on our screens and in ads but rarely with allergies. This book is the closest thing I found to me. Zoe is not just darker skinned. She hasn’t just got an allergy. She also wears her hair in my style.
I have styled my hair like this since I was 5 and I am so glad it is now being represented🤣

The illustration, by Rachel, is beautiful and, the author, Anisha, did a stunning job with the words- and no where does it say ‘sufferer’.

I am so glad I have a book that I can read to my inner child, she is so happy!
