UK BRAND REVIEW: Lazy Day Foods
Remember when we used to go around to other people’s houses for dinner? Yes it was anxiety induced times, but I do miss it. Well, even when I was comfortable eating at someone’s house there was always the part of the eveing where we would be sitting on the sofas after dinner, and the host pulled out a desert box. This box was full of chocolates, mini cakes and ususally they were high end and looked delecisous. However, I always got the phrase - “I am sorry you can’t have any, some have nuts in.” At this point in my life, I might say “No worries, if they do I might go then” however, in the past I have always just sat there feeling uncomfortbale and wishing there would be an equalivalent of the ‘dessert box’ that I could have and others could enjoy.
Well my dreams have been answered and I am so happy to share it with you.
Lazy Day Foods
Lazy Day is run by two professional food sceintists Dr Sally Beattie and Emer Bustard. They have been running Lazy Day since 2006 in Scotland. They understand food intolerances, as they are both managing them personally. What I love is that they believe that we all should enjoy quality treats, just like I wanted! The Lazy Day foods are all hand baked in their free from facility. They use high quality ingredients, including, real Belgian chocolate. They want everybody to have their cake and eat it too!
Free-From
This is the most important part, right?!
Lazy Day foods bakery is free from:
Gluten
Dairy
Egg
Which they test for!
No nuts are on site (they do not test for this)
*They use Soya in their products
When I first came across Lazy Day I was sceptical. I didn’t understand why they couldn’t put Free From nuts on their packaging. Well, luckily we live in the information age, so I emailed them. The picture below is their response.
Everyone is different. Everyone trusts differently and their gut tells them different things. I felt secure and confident in that response and I tried them over Christmas. I am hooked.
Lazy Day has many many products that you can buy from their online store here - There is such a range of flavours and textures that I won’t list them all here but I will share what I had and a couple I can’t wait to try.
Tiffin Selection box
Cranberry & Orange Tiffin
Belgian Chocolate Tiffin
Belgian Chocolate Rocky Road
Millionaire shortbread
Belgian Dark Chocolate Tiffin
I would love to try the shortbread (I am obsessed with shortbread) and any of the ginger products. One special thing I love, is that they sell a Vegan Chocolate Celebration Cake for birthdays or special occasions. A cake made to deliver for your parties or a Friday night in. Plus it is available at Sainbury’s
AWARDS
Lazy Day was shortlisted by Free From Food Awards in 2020. The products shortlisted were the Truffle Trio and the Oatie Selection Tube. Even though I was a Judge for the Free From Food Awards in 2020 I did not judge these products (but I wish I had!) I am a judge this year, and I can’t wait. Well done Lazy Day Foods!!
Conclusion
This company is doing amazingly well. It is remarkable how they are giving people with these allergies a sense of normalcy and amazing treats. As I am someone who can eat all the ingredients they test for, I feel sad that they do not test for nuts, I think that would be a game-changer. Their products are elegant, delicious and thoughtful - however, I do just want to say that having a nut-free facility is incredible and I am very grateful for this product.
