Food Allergy Mindset

My name is Jiya and I am the founder of Food Allergy Youth. I created this organization in hopes of helping people with food allergies navigate and thrive throughout their lives whilst living with his condition on a day-to-day basis. On my Instagram account I share informational threads, I have a blog and a new podcast called “FAY Talks” where I talk to incredible individuals that have made huge impacts on the food allergy community. My goal is to spread positivity and encouragement throughout this supportive community. If we all continue to collaborate and use our voices, I believe that we can truly make a difference for food allergies on a larger scale then we already have.

There is an extreme number of children and young adults who have food allergies. It is necessary that we, young people, speak up about this - especially speaking about how it affects us. Food allergies are a huge part of our lives, everytime we meet someone new, in every meal we eat - one wrong ingredient, our lives are at risk. We have to ask and seek answers in each other. Many people do not understand our struggles and we need unite to spread awareness as well as help and learn more about each other.

I have had food allergies since I was a child. I have been through a lot with them, including OIT. If you would like to more on my experience with this therapy, please read it here. Having a positive mindset has made my life easier, happier and more fulfilled. It is important to signify what we are going through and try to take on our problems together but also remember that food allergies is not a death sentence. By sharing my positive tips I hope you can find peace joy with your food allergies too.

3 tips for a positive mindset with food allergies

1. Appreciate what you do have

It is a must to implement gratitude into your life. When you wake up in the morning, make a list of all of the things, people, places, etc. that you are thankful for - it will instantly shift your mindset and you will see the glass (your life) as half full!

Throughout the day notice small things around you and have gratitude for them. At the end of the day, you can reflect and remember all of the things that made you happy. You will find an immense mood boost; even if you do this for one day!

2. Gift yourself with the present moment

Making peace a part of your life will have a huge impact on your positivity. We are happiest and lightest when we are free; free from worries, doubts, and anxiety. One way to live a peaceful lifestyle is to focus on the present moment. The present is all we have, we must make the most of it and live it to the fullest!

When you focus all of your attention on the present moment, the overthinking about the past or future has an opportunity to dissipate. Emmerse yourself in what is right in front of you.

3. Evaluate your circle of influence

‘You are who you surround yourself with.’

Make sure the people around you are uplifting, compassionate, and driven! Spending time with the same people we can start picking up their habits or mannerisms, make sure they are positive ones. When we see people around us smile and talk encouragingly it makes us want to do the same. Being surrounded with those people means that we will continue to evolve and grow. Be around people who make you feel joyous, appreciated, and full of bliss.
